We are firming up plans for our Father’s Day celebration in Angel Fire. Those of you who went to this event last year know that we had a fabulous time; and this year will be even better! There is a newly constructed Mountain View Event Center, and most activities will be there.
We’re going to beat the June heat of Albuquerque and Santa Fe! Angel Fire is an Alpine, high-altitude ecosystem with lots of evergreen trees. Average temperatures in Angel Fire will range from 60-70 degrees during the day; but nights and early mornings can be into the 40s.
Our RRR member Greg Ralph is again hosting this event. As Tourism Director, he is well positioned to help us enjoy our weekend. It is time to register on http://motorsportreg.com/ Most of the events of the weekend are Free. Your only expense should be room and meals.
We have negotiated a reduced room rate of $149/night + tax, which is a significant reduction for this time of year. Most rooms in the old section of the Lodge are spacious and will have two queen beds. Some have not been renovated, but I think they are just fine. After check-in, we will join other revelers at the free concert at the Mountain View Event Center. There will be food trucks with great food. Look for the RRR banner! Bring your chairs and a hat. Saturday morning is a balloon ascension, or you can join a few friends for an informal drive-out. Drive-outs are on your own; so, consider where you and your friends would like to go.
Saturday afternoon, we will gather at the Lodge north parking lot at 2:30 and begin a parade down Main street, ending in a car show, at the Event Center. Then, join your best friends for dinner at Elements at the Country Club or an alternative restaurant in town. There will be more music Saturday night, and more food trucks; so, if you want to stay informal, bring your own chairs and enjoy Stanlie Kee and Step In Blues.
We’ve saved the best for last. During the Sunday morning Balloon Ascension, Greg and the airport manager have enabled us to drive onto the runway for great photo opportunities! This is a highlight of the weekend.
